A Gentleman’s Dress Code Guide for Prague

Prague is more relaxed than Paris or Milan, but its best restaurants, bars and concert halls still reward a gentleman who dresses well. When you spend the evening with an elegant companion, a good outfit is also a compliment to her.

Fine dining

For a top restaurant a tailored jacket with chinos or wool trousers is ideal. A tie is rarely required, but a crisp shirt and polished leather shoes are expected. Navy, grey and charcoal always work and pair beautifully with a lady in a cocktail dress.

The opera and classical concerts

The State Opera, the National Theatre and the Rudolfinum are among the most beautiful venues in Europe. A dark suit is the right choice for evening performances, and many guests still wear a tie. Your companion will choose a long or knee-length evening dress.

Cocktail bars

Prague’s cocktail scene is smart casual. Dark jeans, a good shirt and a blazer or fine knitwear are perfect. Trainers are acceptable in some bars, but clean leather shoes are safer.

Daytime and sightseeing

Cobbled streets and hills mean comfortable shoes. A light jacket is useful even in summer, as evenings by the river can be cool.

Tell us where you are going and we will make sure your companion is dressed to match: elegant for the opera, chic for cocktails, relaxed for a walk.

Small details that matter

  • A good watch and a light fragrance.
  • A pressed shirt, even under a casual jacket.
  • A coat in winter: Prague can drop below zero from December to February.

Dressing well is not about impressing others. It is about feeling confident and making the evening feel special, for you and for your companion in Prague.
