A great cocktail bar is the perfect stage for a date. The lighting is low, the music is good and a talented bartender adds a little theatre to the evening. Prague has quietly become one of the best cocktail cities in Europe, with bars that rival London and New York.
Speakeasy style
Several of the city’s best bars hide behind unmarked doors, down staircases or at the back of ordinary-looking cafés. Finding them is part of the fun, and the intimate atmosphere inside makes them ideal for conversation.
Hotel bars
Five-star hotel bars are elegant, quiet and comfortable, and you never need a reservation. They are also a natural meeting point if your companion is joining you at your hotel later.
Rooftop terraces
From May to September, a rooftop bar with a view of the castle and the river is hard to beat. Arrive before sunset to watch the city change colour.
Champagne and wine bars
If cocktails are not your style, Prague’s wine bars offer excellent Moravian wines, a region many visitors have never tasted. Ask for a dry Riesling or a Pálava and let your companion introduce you to local favourites.
Choose a bar where you can hear each other. The best nights begin with a good conversation.
Tips for a night out
- Book a table on Friday and Saturday evenings.
